FAQ
Ordering & access
Do I need a referral or prescription to order?
Do I need a referral or prescription to order?
No. Anyone can browse and order from Focus on Intimacy. A referral isn't required
to look around, ask questions, or place an order for yourself.
Can I order for myself, or does it have to go through a clinician?
Can I order for myself, or does it have to go through a clinician?
You can order for yourself. Clinicians can also order on behalf of someone they
support, which can help if funding approval is involved.
Can family members or support workers order on someone's behalf?
Can family members or support workers order on someone's behalf?
Yes, with the person's consent. We'd encourage involving a clinician where funding is involved, but it's not a requirement to place an order.
Is there an age requirement to order?
Is there an age requirement to order?
Yes — all orders must be placed by an adult aged 18 or over.
Funding & cost
How does funding work?
How does funding work?
Focus on Intimacy isn't specific to any one funding body — we work with funding bodies across Australia, not just NSW schemes. While the exact process varies slightly between schemes, it generally works like this: the item is identified as needed due to your injury, illness or disability, and we provide a quote that includes GST, shipping, our ABN and company name, and the items and delivery costs. Your prescriber then submits a letter or report along with the quote to your funding body for approval. Once the funding body assesses and approves the request, written approval is sent to us at welcome@focusonintimacy.com.au, we ship your item, and we invoice your funding body directly — there's no reimbursement and no double handling for you or your support team.
Can this equipment be funded through my plan or scheme?
Can this equipment be funded through my plan or scheme?
Many of our products can be funded through relevant funding bodies across Australia, where intimacy-related equipment is recognised as part of a person's needs. Funding eligibility depends on your individual scheme and circumstances.
What happens if my funding request is declined?
What happens if my funding request is declined?
You can still choose to purchase the item privately, or work with your clinician to provide further information if a request is declined. We're happy to support that process where we can.
Do I need an assessment before ordering funded equipment?
Do I need an assessment before ordering funded equipment?
This depends on your funding body's requirements. Many funding bodies use tiered prescriber categories based on the complexity of the equipment — straightforward items may only need a generalist clinician, while more complex equipment (such as positioning equipment or specialised sexual health devices) may require a prescriber with specific experience or a track record in that category. Your clinician or case manager can advise on what applies to your scheme.
Privacy & discretion
Will my order be private and discreet?

Choosing the right product
How do I know what's right for my specific needs?
How do I know what's right for my specific needs?
Our site is organised by functional need — things like hand strength, reach, sensation changes, or whether a product requires an erection — rather than by diagnosis. This makes it easier to find what's likely to work for you, whatever the cause of your limitation.
What if I'm not sure what limitation or feature applies to me?
What if I'm not sure what limitation or feature applies to me?
That's completely normal — get in touch and we can talk through your situation and point you toward suitable options.
Can I speak to someone before ordering?
Can I speak to someone before ordering?
Yes. Contact us by phone or email and we're happy to help you work out what might suit your needs.
Are products suitable for all genders and sexual orientations?
Are products suitable for all genders and sexual orientations?
Yes. Our range is selected to be inclusive of all genders, bodies, and relationship and sexual orientations.
Do you stock medical grade devices for erectile function?
Do you stock medical grade devices for erectile function?
No. Focus on Intimacy stocks aids that work with the body as it is. That is why you will find a No Erection Required category here rather than devices intended to restore or assist an erection.
If a medical grade option is what you are after, Mens Health Downunder is an Australian supplier working in that area.
They are a separate business. We are not affiliated with them and we do not receive anything if you buy from them. We also cannot tell you which of their products would suit you. That one is worth taking to your GP, urologist, continence nurse or whichever clinician knows your situation, because the right device depends on things we cannot see from here.
What if you do not stock what I need?
What if you do not stock what I need?
Tell us. The range here grows based on what people ask for, and a fair bit of what is on the site now is here because a clinician or a customer asked for it.
If we can source it through one of our suppliers, we will. If we cannot, we will say so and point you somewhere that can, where we know of one.

Focus on Intimacy was founded by Louise Whitton, an AHPRA-registered Occupational Therapist with 15 years' experience in catastrophic injury management. You can read more on our About page.
How are products selected?
How are products selected?
Every product is reviewed by our clinical team against the features that genuinely help with different limitations and strengths — things like grip, reach, vibration intensity, and ease of control — not against marketing claims. If a product doesn't hold up against real functional needs, it doesn't make the range.
Do you serve all of NSW, or just regional areas?
